Shaffi was a very active member of Indian Youth Congress since 1988. He remained active in Youth Congress till he turned 35 years in 2005 except during the years he spent outside in India on studies.

In Youth Congress also, he has been a catalyst in policy matters and has emphasized constructive politics as a means of change.

In 2005, he was selected as one of the two official delegates from Kerala to represent Kerala Pradesh Youth Congress in the 30 day 75th year Commemorative Dandi Salt March from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the Dandi Beach covering the entire distance by walking through the same path which Mahatma Gandhi walked 75 years ago. During the march, AICC appointed Shaffi as the Co-ordinator – South India of the 75th Dandi March. Shaffi spoke at multiple stops during the March and translated the speech into Hindi of several leaders including Mr. Oommen Chandy, Mr. Kumari Anathan etc.

Shaffi also walked the Kerala leg of the 75th year Commemorative Dandi Salt March from Calicut beach to Payyannur Beach making him only one of the two delegates to walk both the Dandi March and the Kerala leg March.

Shaffi facilitated the JeevanDaan Blood Donation Initiative within the Indian Youth Congress (and National Students Union of India) as a pilot social project in mumbai. The JeevanDaan initiative envisioned encouraging local IYC and NSUI units to take on the responsibility of ensuring adequate donated blood supply in the local blood banks. The pilot coordinated by Shaffi for 3 months led to over 30000 units of Blood being collected by the MPYC and Mumbai NSUI during the pilot phase from Jan, 2009 to March 2009.
